Deleted from the Map and a post on Architecture and Town Planning

Two links and a few comments.

The BBC Magazine carries a story today examine the argument being put forward by the British Cartographic Society that online maps are ‘wiping out history’. In fact they are doing more than that. All maps involve particular selections of information. Some things are included and some things excluded. These can have quite profound impacts on the way we conceive of and think about the world. One interesting point is the google maps doesn’t have information about landmarks, including churches or other places of worship. Is google maps blankwashing our view of the world and even secularising it? Something to think about anyway.

Over at Tim Chester’s blog he’s posted about “a kingdom perspective on architecture and town planning“. Community is a big theme in current urban theory and Dave Bish draws together with some help from Tim Chester and Jonathan Leeman some thoughts about it: Love the church: it’s better together (with help from Tim Chester and Jonathan Leeman)
